Protest vote closes Asian football congress in just 20 minutes

An Asian football congress to elect representatives to the FIFA Council closed after just 20 minutes on Tuesday after members rejected the agenda in protest at a Qatari official being barred from the poll.

Members voted 42 to one against supporting the agenda at the meeting in India’s Goa, which meant the ballot to elect three new members to the world body’s powerful council was cancelled.

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa said it was “probably the shortest congress” he had ever chaired.

An FAS official has expressed his confidence that the state football association would have a new president soon.

He said this when he was asked by The Kuching Sports News recently on whether the Sarawak FA had any candidate after YB Abdullah Saidol had turned down the offer to the the president.

"Dah ada ... tunggu jak (Got already ... Just wait)," he texted the sports blog.

Four SUKMA athletes test positive


The four were a weightlifter, a boxer and two archers, who had won medals at the Sarawak Malaysia Games in July.

PETALING JAYA: Four athletes who competed in the Sarawak Malaysia Games in July have tested positive for banned substances, the New Straits Times Online reported.

This was confirmed by the National Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (Adamas).

Pasukan SIFT cuba untuk mengimbangi perlawanan tetapi pertahanan SIFT seolah-olah hilang tumpuan apabila membiarkan Azdlan Khan meledak gol kedua untuk pasukan FC Quaquero.

Greenians humbled by 13-0 defeat

 
KUCHING: School hockey powerhouse SMK Penrissen got off to a roaring start in the Boys’ Under-17 competition of the inaugural TNB Sarawak Hockey League at Sarawak Hockey Stadium yesterday when they routed SMK Green Road 13-0 in a Group B opener.

Their next games will be against 1Mas on Oct 8 and Sakura on Oct 16. The other game yesterday saw Warriors Hockey Club from Miri edging Tasik Biru 5-3.

Organising chairperson Datin Mary Sadiah Zainuddin said the Hockey Association of Sarawak (HAS) is pleased with the encouraging response to the league which is sponsored by Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

Liga Bolasepak Rakyat: Kuching benam Sri Aman 2-0

Kuching memberi amaran awal kepada para pencabar untuk kempen Liga Bola Sepak Rakyat (LBR) 2016-17 dengan menunjukkan kejaguhan menewaskan Sri Aman 2-0 di Stadium Negeri malam tadi.

Utusan Borneo melaporkan pasukan tuan rumah dibarisi pemain-pemain berpengalaman beraksi mantap di hadapan kira-kira 1,000 orang penonton dengan melakukan beberapa asakan ke kubu pasukan pelawat.

Skuad warga kota hampir- hampir memperolehi gol awal pada minit ke-23 apabila Mohd Shazwan Rahmatullah merembat kencang di depan gawang Sri Aman namun bola terkena benteng lawan.

Abdullah says NO to FAS top post

Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Abdullah Saidol has declined to accept an offer to be the Sarawak FA president, reported Utusan Borneo yesterday.

He was reported want to focus more on his current responsibilities.

Abdullah disclosed that he had met the Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem on the matter.

Kejohanan tersebut hanya akan berlangsung pada hari Sabtu dan Ahad sahaja dimana hanya DUA perlawanan akan berlangsung dalam sehari iaitu perlawanan jam 2.00 Petang dan 4.00 Petang.

Malaysia creates history, wins two golds at Rio Paralympics

Malaysia has created history by winning two gold medals at the Rio Paralympics in Brazil, and etching one of the victories by setting a new world record.

The first gold medal was won by Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi Sunday (Saturday in Rio de Janeiro) in the 100m T36 (celebral palsy) event and the second by Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli with a new world record in the Men’s Shot Put F20 (intellectual disability) event, also on Sunday.

Malaysia has won medals previously at the paralympics, but only silver and bronze.

KUCHING: The Sarawak Taekwondo Association (WTF), led by its president Mohd Salleh Sani and deputy president Azizul Annuar Adenan, paid a courtesy call on Youth, Sports and Solidarity Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong recently.

Manyin was briefed on the progress of association’s talent scouting and training programmes.

“We are glad to be working closely with the government agencies who have been very supportive in the development of sports that broadens the access to practise taekwondo (WTF),” said Salleh.

Kuching is certain to be under intense pressures to retain the title in the second edition of Liga Bolasepak Rakyat (LBR).

Sarawak FA (FAS) vice president Razali Dolhan opined many districts now realised that the league could provide a platform to progress in the national-level football.

Therefore, he told TheKuchingSportsNews, these districts would start to give extra attention to the league.

Sarawak duo for National Coaching Academy

KUCHING: The National Coaching Academy under the National Institute of Sports Malaysia (ISN) has appointed lecturers Dr Chin Ngien Siong from the Institute of Teacher Education Tun Abdul Razak Campus and Gordon Nicolaus Jemat Anchang from UiTM Sarawak Campus as advisory panel board members.

Their letters of appointment were from the Minister of Youth and Sports Khairy Jamaluddin.

Chin will oversee the development of sports science courses at the national level while Gordon will be in physical conditioning.

Greenians aim higher in Bintulu

KUCHING: After tasting success at school level, SMK Green Road are aiming higher by taking part in the Bintulu Open at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Campus, Bintulu from Sept 23-25.

The 15-strong boys Under-18 team known as the ‘Hornets’ include Mohd Rozairie Ramlie, Samuel Millan Tommy, Mohd Za’im Ahmad Zaki, Abang Ismad Syahmi, Mohd Fadhli Asri Effendy, Brandon Paul Bond, Mohamed Ilyasha Ghazali, Jaroeldrin Lian James, Juninho Sta Lidang (captain), Muhammad Danial Aniq, Zulshamiezza Mohammad and Asyraf Haizan Ramle.

The team will be managed by Mohd Rosdi Zakaria and coached by Juraimie Junaidi and Muhd Sophian Mohd Alli.

“Our school is now well known for its achievements at school and divisional level so we are trying to bring our softball to a higher level by competing against teams from colleges, vocational schools and universities,” said Juraimie.

Two of the school’s former players Kautsar Untong and Zahar Shamsul Siddiq are currently in the national squad.

Juraimie has set a target for the team to finish among the top four in the Boys U18 competition.

“I am expecting the competition to be tough for my boys but it will be a very good exposure and challenge for the players especially those in form three and four,” he said.

“Our school Alumni and the parents, PIBG have also contacted me to indicate their support but we need more sponsors to buy the air tickets and pay for the accommodation and transport expenses.” -TheBorneoPost
 

Sarawak aiming to be 19th Sopma overall champion

KUCHING: Sarawak is targeting at least 12 gold medals and to emerge as overall champion for the 19th Malaysia Deaf Games (Sopma) from Sept 30 to Oct 7.

The state will also be hosting the national games for the deaf for the first time. Athletes will be competing in four sports – athletics, badminton, ten-pin bowling and men’s football.

Assistant Minister of Welfare and Community Development Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said Sarawak athletes have shown potential to excel in athletics and tenpin bowling.

Training provided for football tourney

KUCHING: A football tournament for the Datuk Sim Kui Hian Cup will be held at the Jubilee Ground here between Oct 22 to Nov 26.

Organised by SUPP Youth Central with iHub Tabuan FC and Jin Hua Batu Kawa Recreation Club, it aims to unearth new talents and provide a platform for competition.

“We want to encourage young people to participate in sports activities. We provide participants with proper training before the competition,” said organizing chairman Tan Kai during a press conference at SUPP headquarter here yesterday.

SHA will stage Sarawak Hockey League this month

KUCHING: The Hockey Association of Sarawak (SHA) will be organising the TNB Sarawak Hockey League from Sept 24 at the Sarawak Hockey Stadium and SMK Paku Hockey Stadium.

The first league to be organised since the merger of the Sarawak Men’s Hockey Association and the Sarawak Women’s Hockey Association is aimed at reviving hockey at grass roots level and identify talent for the state team especially at the youth level.

Association secretary Kangot Awan said the league will be divided into the Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Boys U17.

Lee Ka Tung set to defend another title

KUCHING: Five-time winner Lee Kah Tung will defend his Sarawak Amateur Masters Open Golf title.

According to organisers, the local golf ace has confirmed his participation in the ninth edition of the tournament from Sept 30 to Oct 2.

Lee, who will represent Sibu Golf Club, won in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Sports associations need 'spring cleaning' to get rid of sports politics

Asistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah wants to tackle sports politics heads on before it causes further damages to sports.

He claimed some sports associations had too much politics to the extent smothering the growth of sports which they were representing.'

“So this time round, we need to do a lot of 'spring cleaning' to make sure the associations are good and the centre(s) of excellence...(are) in the right place," he quoted by a local English daily.

The assistant minister was delivering his speech at the closing of the Sibu Open Track & Field Championship at Stadium Tun Zaidi in Sibu last Sunday.


Two cyclists find solace in national championships after being overlooked for SUKMA

KUCHING: Two cyclists overlooked for the state squad in the recently concluded Sarawak Sukma XVIII gave creditable performances at the National BMX Championships and Cross Country National Championships in Gombak, Selangor recently.

Hartih Zaki was fourth fastest in the BMX time trial but finished sixth overall after having meeting with an accident in the final round while Ariana Nurminda finished first runner-up in her event.

KUCHING: SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab’s (Shoaw) stranglehold on the Kuching Rugby Football Club (KRFC) School Sevens Rugby Championship was finally broken when MRSM Kuching A team upset the perenial powerhouse 10-5 in the U18 Cup final at Song Kheng Hai Rugby Ground last Sunday.

It was an historic achievement as MRSM Kuching scored a ‘double first,’ winning the U18 Cup and beating Shoaw both for the first time.

MRSM won all their matches in the group stage, blanking Kolej Vokasional Betong 12-0, SMK Sungai Maong 19-5 and SMK Muara Tuang 17-0 before disposing of Shaow B 21-0 in the last eight and SMK Muara Tuang 12-5 in the semi-finals.

Tenpin bowling's 11 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze get biggest SUKMA incentive RM163,750


Tenpin bowling was the biggest winner at the 18th Sukma, winning a total of 11 gold, four silver and one bronze. 

They received RM163,750 as their incentive. 

Top contributing keglers were golden girl of the alley Nerosha Keligit who bagged the highest reward with six gold, Ervin Lim Wai Mun (four gold and one silver) and Jocelyna Judith (three gold).

Sarawak Hockey Association organises umpiring course


KUCHING: The Hockey Association of Sarawak will be organising the Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC) national-level Umpiring Theory examination on Oct 8 at the conference room of the Sarawak Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Jalan Padungan.

100 attend Special Olympics annual bowling at Riverside


Some 100 participants took part in the ‘Macam-Macam Ada Bowling’ event organised by Special Olympics Kuching Chapter at Riverside Super Bowl here recently.

They were from Community-based Rehabilitation Centres (PDK) of Sadong Jaya, Duyoh, Siniawan, Siburan, Pibakat, Samarahan, Mambong, Harmoni Asajaya and SMK Demak Baru’s Special Education Class.

Pandelela gets RM0.5million from State Government


The state government has rewarded national diver Pandelela Rinong with a cash incentive of RM500,000 and also named the state aquatic centre after the two-time Malaysian Olympian who won a silver medal with her partner Cheong Jun Hoong in the Rio Olympic Games 2016.

RM1,520 sponsorship from Bank Rakyat for SMK Green Road's softball club


KUCHING: Bank Rakyat is honoured to support the Hornets Softball Club of SMK Green Road with sponsorship, said its Simpang Tiga branch manager Huzaimi Ali yesterday.

PUTRAJAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters, here, today to hand over the controversial pendrive, said to contain evidence of wrongdoings in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).

Upon arrival at the MACC HQ grounds at 11.15 am, Khairy was surrounded by members of the media who had been waiting since 10 am.

Khairy, who was in a baju Melayu, then showed the pendrive which he held in his hand to the media members.

MSNS dan KBS bantu PBPHS anjur kejohanan hoki Kuching

Kejohanan Liga Hoki Kuching 2016 bermula dari 24 September depan sehingga 6 November.

Two Sarawak Paralympians will represent the country at the 2016 Summer Paralympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro from Sept 7-18, said Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah during an incentive awards ceremony held at Baitulmal Building yesterday.

According to her, the two Sarawakians are Jamery Siga in swimming and Jong Yee Khie in powerlifting.

They join the Malaysian contingent of 21 athletes (19 men and two women) left for Rio on Monday, to compete in eight out of 23 sports – athletics, archery, cycling, powerlifting, sailing, swimming, table-tennis and wheelchair tennis.

Able-bodied and disabled athletes get same incentives in Sarawak


KUCHING: Sarawak’s Paralympians became the first to receive incentives on par with able-bodied athletes yesterday, with a total of 187 athletes pocketing a windfall of RM800,000.

The ground-breaking benchmark for the ‘new normal’ was set at a prize-cum-awards ceremony held at the Baitulmal Building, officiated by no less than the chief minister’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu and Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah yesterday.

As equal largesse for the state’s latest Malaysian Paralympiad Games triumph, the state government splashed out RM869,800 as incentives to the contingent. Out of the figure, winning athletes were rewarded RM661,500 while successful teams were given RM130,000.

A Bangladeshi football fan who lost both his legs in a horror train accident has dreams of competing professionally like his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, reported www.dailymail.co.uk.

Mohammad Abdullah, 22, from Dhaka, lost both his legs on a speeding train ten years ago.

But now the young man, who also works as a luggage porter at a ferry station, is making a name for himself with his football skills.

He said: 'I never thought I'd be able to walk, never mind play football.

'When I was bound to that wheelchair I feared I might have to spend the rest of my life trapped.

Equal opportunities and incentives for Olympians and Paralympians


Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin has announced that Paralympic medal winners in Rio will receive life-long pension equivalent to their Olympic counterparts. 

It’ll be a boost in Malaysia’s hunt for its maiden gold medal, as the winner will receive RM5,000 per month, silver medallists will get RM3,000 per month while bronze winners will receive RM2,000 per month. 

The eventual medallists will also receive cash incentive on top of the monthly allowance: RM1 million (gold), RM300,000 (silver), RM100,000 (bronze).

The former State hockey player said, among others, he wants to give more attention to Sarawak Former Hockey Player Association by which he is the president.

Don't stop believing in the Crocs!

SFFC president Peter Moni Selat expressed confidence that the team have what it takes to remain in the Super League for next year.

“As fans of the team, you cannot stop believing in your team because that is what fans are for.

"You support them when they are doing well and you definitely need to be there when they are not doing well too,” he told a local English daily yesterday.

Following a 1-1 home draw against Selangor at the Stadium Negeri last week, the Crocs must take advantage of the two remaining home games to get maximum points.

The rumours are the current president Datu Sudarsono Osman will not defend his post in the next Annual General Meeting of the State association.

A FAS official, when asked about the rumours today, said he did hear about it.

KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has assured that the Sarawak government, Sarawak Sports Corporation and Sarawak State Sports Council will give full and unwavering support for the continuous success and progress of tenpin bowling in Sarawak.

He noted that Amateuer Tenpin Bowling Association of Sarawak (Abas) has attained numerous achievements and achieved milestones over the last 28 years since its formation.

He pointed out that under the association (which won best association award in Sarawak in 2009), many state bowlers namely Jackson Ting, Tang Joh Six, Jackie Ting, Jonathan Lim, Jacqueline Sijore, Isaac Russell Paul and Ervin Lim had won national and international honours.

Aisa Rosli is the ‘Champion of Champions’


KUCHING: Aisa Rosli of Kota Samarahan clinched the ‘Champion of Champions’ title at the third edition of Mr Boulevard-Mr BBS on Saturday.

The police lance corporal had earlier won the senior above-70kg category beating out Edison Eddie Ekom and Jeremiah Rukong — both also from Kota Samarahan — into second and third place.

The senior under-70kg title went to Wilfred Harding of Kuching. Mohamad Hafiz Mohd Razib of Johor and Alvin Vellabouy Alan Achang of Kuching followed behind.

SHOAW retains rugby title three years in a row

KUCHING: SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab (Shoaw) completed a hat-trick of wins in the Kuching Festival Rugby Carnival when they defeated SMK Tebedu 47-12 in the Cup final at Song Kheng Hai Ground last Saturday.

This is the third consecutive year that the Kuching school rugby powerhouse has won the title.

Shoaw head coach Zulkarainhisham Sarbini was pleased with the performance of his boys who had helped to maintain the school’s standard in the annual competition organised jointly by Kuching Football Rugby Club (KRFC) and the Kuching City South Council (MBKS).

Sumbangan atlet veteran dipandang sepi oleh kerajaan

KUCHING: Atlet-atlet bina badan veteran wajar mendapat penghargaan seperti yang diberikan kepada atlet-atlet pada masa ini, kata Presiden Persatuan Bina Badan Sarawak (SBBA), Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

Menurutnya, atlet-atlet veteran seperti Soloman Esmanto, Allahyarham Bujang Taha dan Liaw Teck Leong telah berhempas pulas dalam keadaan serba kekurangan demi membawa nama baik Malaysia di persada antarabangsa.

“Sudah tiba masanya atlet- atlet veteran kita dikurniakan penghormatan dan insentif sama seperti yang dianugerahkan kepada atlet-atlet baharu,” katanya pada perasmian Kejuaraan Bina Badan Mr Boulevard/Mr BBS 2016 edisi ketiga di sini semalam.

KUCHING: Pertubuhan Belia Kebangsaan Bersatu Sarawak (SABERKAS) komited membantu kerajaan negeri dalam usaha menjadikan Sarawak sebagai sebuah ‘Negeri Kuasa Sukan’.

Timbalan Ketua Menteri, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg berkata pertubuhan itu terus bekerjasama dengan kerajaan negeri dalam usaha mengenal pasti sukan berpotensi diketengahkan serta mampu menaikkan nama Sarawak ke peringkat lebih tinggi.

“SABERKAS memainkan peranan penting untuk melahirkan atlet-atlet dari negeri ini yang berwibawa pada masa hadapan.

Adenan tugaskan Manyin dan Karim fikirkan hadiah untuk Pandelela


Kerajaan negeri bersetuju memberi insentif khas kepada ratu terjun negara, Pandelela Rinong susulan kejayaan atlet itu merangkul pingat perak pada Sukan Olimpik Rio.

Menteri Pembangunan Wanita, Keluarga dan Masyarakat, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah berkata Ketua Menteri Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem mewakilkan Menteri Belia, Sukan dan Solidariti, Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong dan Menteri Muda Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah memikirkan bentuk hadiah yang diberikan kepada Pandelela.

“Mereka akan mengumumkannya pada waktu yang sesuai nanti. Kita tidak pasti bentuk kuantum insentif akan diberikan namun yang pasti ia adalah menarik,” katanya pada sidang media di sini kelmarin.

Sembang bola dengan Alan Vest

 
KUCHING: Sarawak perlu memperkasakan program pembangunan bola sepak di peringkat akar umbi untuk mengembangkan lagi sukan nombor satu itu di negeri ini.

Saranan itu disuarakan oleh bekas jurulatih Sarawak, Alan Vest, kepada wartawan Utusan Borneo, sambil menegaskan tanpa program pembangunan yang kukuh dan berterusan, mutu bola sepak negeri ini akan terus ketinggalan berbanding negeri-negeri lain.

“Ya sudah tentu Sarawak amat memerlukan program pembangunan akar umbi kerana negeri ini amat besar dan saya yakin ada ramai pemain berbakat yang boleh dicungkil.

Prtasarathee wakili negara dalam kejohanan dunia remaja

KUCHING: Atlet Kelab Muaythai SS Fighters dari Sarawak, Prtasarathee Punniyamoorthy dipilih untuk mewakili negara pada Kejohanan Dunia Remaja Persekutuan Antarabangsa Muaythai Amatur (IFMA) yang akan berlangsung di Bangkok, Thailand dari 24 Ogos hingga 1 September 2016.

Pelajar Tingkatan 3 Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pending itu mendapat kepercayaan Persatuan Muaythai Malaysia (PMM) selepas mempamer aksi cemerlang pada Kejohanan Muaythai WMC/PMM Pro Remaja Kebangsaan 2016 yang diadakan di South City Plaza Sri Kembangan pada 20 dan 21 Ogos lepas.

Meskipun tewas di peringkat suku akhir pada kejohanan tersebut, potensi yang ditunjukkan oleh Prtasarathee membolehkan beliau dipilih bersama lapan petinju lain mewakili pelbagai kelab dari seluruh negara.

Kelab Sukan & Rekreasi Real Stats anjur liga bolasepak


Kelab Sukan & Rekreasi Real Stats akan menganjurkan liga bolasepak pada September 16 depan di Padang HDC, Kampung Tunku Phase 2.

Penganjuran ini dilakukan dengan kerjasama Real Stats Football Club.

Penyertaan hanya terhad untuk 10 pasukan sahaja - dan setiap pasukan hanya boleh mendaftar 25 orang pemain sahaja.

Seri bukan pilihan Sarawak malam ini

KUCHING: Sarawak mempunyai tiada pilihan ketika menentang Selangor malam ini di Stadium Negeri kecuali mendapatkan tiga mata diakhir perlawanan.

Ini untuk membolehkan Sarawak menjarakkan diri daripada zon penyingkiran dalam Liga Super.

“Kita perlu menang perlawanan malam esok (malam ini) dan saya mahu semua pemain memberi fokus sepenuhnya agar kita tidak lagi keciciran mata.

BAM jawab Misbun

PETALING JAYA: Persatuan Badminton Malaysia (BAM) menafikan negara ketandusan pemain pelapis dalam badminton negara selepas Datuk Lee Chong Wei, sekali gus menepis dakwaan kononnya negara tidak serius dalam membangunkan kualiti sukan itu.

Timbalan presidennya, Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria memberitahu FMT keadaan itu dapat diterjemahkan melalui pencapaian pasukan badminton di Olimpik Rio baru- baru ini.

Beliau berkata BAM menggunakan strategi serampang dua mata - pertama, persediaan untuk Olimpik Rio dan kedua, persediaan untuk menggantikan Chong Weil

Norza berkata demikian ketika diminta mengulas keluhan bekas ketua jurulatih negara Datuk Misbun Sidek (klik disini) yang berkata Malaysia kekurangan sistem latihan atlet handalan yang sempurna dan maju dan ini mengakibatkan negara gagal memenangi pingat emas di Olimpik Rio.

Ninety-two golfers for S’wak Grand Championship

KUCHING: Ninety-two male and female golfers will compete in the 3rd Sarawak Grand Championship for the Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu Challenge Trophy to be held at Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) from Sept 2-4.

Last year’s winners Lee Ka Tung of Sibu Golf Club and Angel Hii from KGS will be out to defend their titles.

The event, sanctioned by Sarawak Golf Association (SGA), is open to golfers with course handicap of 13.1 or below for men and course handicap of 32.2 (36) for women.
