KUCHING: After tasting success at school level, SMK Green Road are aiming higher by taking part in the Bintulu Open at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Campus, Bintulu from Sept 23-25.

The 15-strong boys Under-18 team known as the ‘Hornets’ include Mohd Rozairie Ramlie, Samuel Millan Tommy, Mohd Za’im Ahmad Zaki, Abang Ismad Syahmi, Mohd Fadhli Asri Effendy, Brandon Paul Bond, Mohamed Ilyasha Ghazali, Jaroeldrin Lian James, Juninho Sta Lidang (captain), Muhammad Danial Aniq, Zulshamiezza Mohammad and Asyraf Haizan Ramle.

The team will be managed by Mohd Rosdi Zakaria and coached by Juraimie Junaidi and Muhd Sophian Mohd Alli.

“Our school is now well known for its achievements at school and divisional level so we are trying to bring our softball to a higher level by competing against teams from colleges, vocational schools and universities,” said Juraimie.

Two of the school’s former players Kautsar Untong and Zahar Shamsul Siddiq are currently in the national squad.

Juraimie has set a target for the team to finish among the top four in the Boys U18 competition.

“I am expecting the competition to be tough for my boys but it will be a very good exposure and challenge for the players especially those in form three and four,” he said.

“Our school Alumni and the parents, PIBG have also contacted me to indicate their support but we need more sponsors to buy the air tickets and pay for the accommodation and transport expenses.” -TheBorneoPost
