SUKMA 2016: Thai's 'Iron Lady' will test State men's volleyball team's strength


SIBU (PhilipWong): A Thai men’s team, ironically calling themselves ‘Iron Lady’, will be among the eight teams playing a series of friendly matches at Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium in Rejang Park from July 9 – 12.

Sibu Volleyball Association chairman Dr William Ting Wei Ung said the event will mark the official opening of the RM10 million stadium by Minister of Youth and Sports and Solidarity Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong at 3 pm on July 11.

The other three men’s teams Sarawak Senior Team, Sarawak Sukma Team and Johor UTM.


The four teams vying in the women’s competition are Thailand Rangsit University, Johore UTM and Sarawak Women’s Sukma teams.

Ting revealed that the ‘Iron Lady’ team, made up of professional players, are a force to be reckoned with.

“The players may look soft and gentle but they are actually a good and strong team.

“Two years ago, the team was invited for exhibition match here and they swept all the titles at stake,” he said.

The competition will take place in the stadium which will host the Sukma volleyball tournament from July 22-29.

Sarawak women’s team have won the Sukma title 14 times while the men have been champions seven times. -TheBorneoPost
