MIRI: The state government will beef up security measures against any IS or militant threats during the 18th edition of Malaysia Games ( Sukma) to be held in Kuching, Sibu and Miri from July 22-31.
State Secretary and organising committee chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani said this was to ensure the smooth running of the Games without any untoward incidents.
“We beef up security control in all avenues of competition of each of event, ‘ he said at a press conference at IKBN Miri yesterday after a site inspection tour here, Miri will host karate ( July 19-21), sailing ( July 25-30) and sepak takraw ( July 23-30) events.
He said only spectators and individuals with authenticated passes would be allowed in the competition avenue, athletes village or hotels.
The security arrangements with Police have already been made.
On the final preparations of Sarawak as host, he said it is all system go.
“All the facilities, including courts, logistic, accommodation and other aspects are ready,” he said.
The opening date of the 18th Sukma coincides with Sarawak’s independence day commemoration.
Earlier on, Morshidi chaired a Miri division organising committee meeting at IKBN .
Also present were Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports and Sarawak chef de-mission , Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Lambir state assemblyman Ripin Lamat, Miri Division Resident Antonio Kahti Galis and heads of government departments.
Sarawak is hosting the Games for the second time, with the first in 1990. -TheBorneoPost
