SUKMA 2016: Announcement on Road Closure


KUCHING: The police have announced the staggered closure of several roads in the city from today until next Tuesday to accommodate Sukma XVIII cycling events.

State Traffic Unit officer-in-charge DSP Alexson Naga Chabu said the announcement of the road closures was to enable motorists to find alternative routes from July 20 (today) until July 26 to avoid congestion.

The affected roads are as follows:

1) July 20 (today) from 9am to 4.30pm for the 200m sprint (Male and Female): Jalan FAC (Matang Courts Mammoth junction/ Pasir Pandak junction)

2) July 21 from 9am to 5pm for the 500m (Female) and 1KM (Male) individual and team time trials: Jalan FAC (Matang Jaya junction, Matang Hilir junction, Red Bridge junction, Jalan Telaga Air, Taman Kopodim junction)

3) July 22 from 9am to 12.30pm for 40KM (Male) and 30km (Female) time trials: Jalan FAC (Matang Jaya junction and SMK Matang Hilir junction)

4) July 23 from 9am to 12.30pm for the individual and team 140km road race (Female): Jalan FAC/Jalan Pasir Pandak/Jalan Sultan Tengah/Jalan Diplomatik/Jalan Bako/Jalan Demak/Jalan SMK Matang Hilir/Jalan Matang-Malihah/Jalan Malihah-Batu Kawah/Jalan Batu Kawah-Singgai/Jalan Singgai-Matang/Jalan Matang-Politeknik/Jalan Politeknik-Jalan FAC.

5) July 24 from 9am to 2pm for the individual and team 160km road race (Male): Jalan FAC/Jalan Pasir Pandak/Jalan Sultan Tengah/Jalan Diplomatik/Jalan Bako/Jalan Demak/Jalan SMK Matang Hilir/Jalan Matang-Malihah/Jalan Malihah-Batu Kawah/Jalan Batu Kawah-Singgai/Jalan Singgai-Matang/Jalan Matang-Politeknik/Jalan Politeknik-Jalan FAC.

6) July 25 from 9am to 5pm for the 80km (Male) and 50km (Female) team time trials: Jalan FAC (Matang Jaya junction, Matang Hilir junction, Red Bridge junction, Jalan Telaga Air, Taman Kopodim junction) 7) July 26 from 9am to 5pm for the 60km (Male) and 50km (Female) criterium: Jalan FAC (Matang Jaya junction, Matang Hilir junction, Red Bridge junction, Jalan Telaga Air, Taman Kopodim junction) Alexson also advised motorists to fully cooperate with the organisers and the police to ensure the events are carried out smoothly and without untoward incidents.
