KUCHING: Kuching Lord Tiger are returning to defend their Yuwang EBL crown in the second edition of the East Malaysian basketball league that will kick off at the MBKS Indoor Stadium here from Aug 26-28.
The recent champions of the 3rd Simon Wong Wee Khiong Cup Kuching Open Basketball Championship will join three other teams.
The four teams that are confirmed for the Kuching Circuit of the league from Aug 26 to Sept 18 are Kuching Lord Tiger, Labuan Wasps, Kota Kinabalu Eagles and Brunei Beruang Blazers.
The Yuwang EBL matches are expected to parade some of the nation’s best cagers as well as professional import players from the Philippines and Singapore.
From Kuching Yuwang EBL’s next stop is the Labuan Circuit from Sept 2-4 before moving to the Kota Kinabalu Circuit (Sept 9-11) and ending up in the Brunei Circuit (Sept 16-18).
Meanwhile, Lord Tiger have been touching base with Kuching schools to promote basketball and Yuwang EBL to the students and teachers as well as sharing their experience and knowledge.
The team led by assistant national coach Danny Yong as head coach has the services of three Filipino imports Ramsey Lewis William, Bobby Juandale Balucanas and Jessie James Bulaon Collado as well as regulars such as Yiek Chai Teck, Tsok Kian Hong, Benjamin Sim and Chai Chze Hian.
They have visited Chung Hua Middle School No. 3, Chung Hua Middle School No. 1, Batu Kawa Sports Recreational Club, SMK Petra Jaya and SM Sains.
The schools were presented with free tickets to watch the Yuwang EBL matches in Kuching. Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian will officiate the opening of the league at MBKS Indoor Stadium on Aug 26.
Organising chairman James Yap, together with Lord Tiger Basketball Club assistant team manager Chang Lee Kui had visited Sim on Monday to extend the invitation to him to be the guest of honour. -TheBorneoPost
