Ka Tung, Eliza win Sarawak Golf Classic

KUCHING: Sarawak’s golf ace Lee Ka Tung made more history in the Sarawak Classic Golf Championship at Kelab Golf Sarawak yesterday when he clinched the men’s gross title for a record eighth time.

The Sibu Golf Club golfer carded a two-day total of 142 (74, 68) to beat Lau Ching Leong by three strokes and collect the prize of goods voucher worth RM3,000.

It was also the second hat-trick for Lee who won the championship in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015.

Apart from lifting the Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Challenge Trophy, Lee was made RM4,000 richer for achieving a 68 four-under during the championship.

Sukma golfers also did well at the weekend, with Steven Hii finishing in third spot in the men’s gross with a 151 and Aziel Teo came in fifth spot on 154, after Lee Kah Ching (152).

The top five winners in the men’s nett event were Mohd Yusri (136), Muas Sebli (139 OCB), Jimmie Teo (139), Hazaman Bunggal (140) and Lincoln Leong (144 OCB).

Sarawak Golf Association’s representative and another Sukma golfer Eliza Mae Kho posted a two-day total of 157 to lift the ladies gross title and collect goods voucher worth RM2,500 and a trophy.

Finishing six strokes behind the champion was Laura Goh Hui Ee and third was Tan Chloe-Wee. Kim Mi Kyeong took the ladies nett title with her score of 149 and in second place was Marana Sahari on 152 strokes.

As for the invited guests categories, Bong Tee Yen and Kenny Chin were the winners in the men’s gross and nett events while Susan Yee and Mariam Enan Muloon were the ladies gross and nett champions.

The prize-giving and closing ceremony also witnessed the presenting of a birthday cake to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu and the singing of a birthday song to celebrate the occasion.

There was a lucky draw that offered 22 prizes, with the main prize as the 65” Sharp LED Television set. -TheBorneoPost
