Three state boxers have been called up by the National Sports Council (MSN) to join the national back-up squad.

It is known that two of the trio are Sukma XVIII silver medallists As Sufi Azli and Syafiz Hazziman Abdullah Jefri.

Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said the third boxer will be announced very soon.

“Thank you to MSN for giving the chance to three Sarawakians to represent the country.

“If any of the three shows potential, he will be selected to represent Malaysia in the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur next year,” added Rahman who is also national team manager for the SEA Games.

Meanwhile, Rahman said about 100 boxers throughout the country including the Armed Forces (ATM) will take part in the Golden Gloves National Boxing Championship at Medan Niaga Satok, Kuching from Sept 27 to Oct 2.

Sarawak is expected to field nine Sukma boxers and boxers from divisional associations and clubs. -TheBorneoPost
