Karim is not happy

The state SUKMA XVIII chef de mission Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah admitted that he was not happy.

While he was pleased with the performance of the athletes, he was not happy with the state contingent's failure to be crowned as the games' overall champions.

"To say that I'm happy, not really because I fail to achieve the overall success for the Sarawak state," he said as quoted by a local Malay daily on last Monday.

However, he was confident that the State could put up a better performance in the next Sukma.

Karim, who is also the Youth and Sports Assistant Minister, pointed out the State was now have many sporting facilities - which were built or upgraded for the games - to be utilised by the athletes.

He said in the past the State didn't have many good sporting facilities for the athletes.

Selangor pipped the State to grab the game's overall champions title with 59 gold medals.

Sarawak had to be contended as the first runner-ups with 57 gold medals.

The State contingent is expected to carry out its own post-mortem to identify issues or problems that have caused Sarawak to miss its target by 15 gold medals.

Apparently, some sports have failed to meet their own target to win gold medals and the state sports authorities must look into these sports to identify and solve the problems.
