Sibu association takes state snooker body to task

SIBU (Dec 24): Sibu Division Billiards & Snooker Association (SDBSA) advisor Danny Wong cuts a dejected and disillusioned figure whenever he talks about uplifting the standard of snooker in the state.

The standard of the sport would forever remain stagnant, he stressed, unless there is the junior development programme implemented to tap new talented young players.

He puts the blame squarely on the Sarawak Billiards Sports and Snooker Federation (SBSSF).

The selection trial is open to any aspiring footballers who are born in the year of 1996 and above.

Today is the second day of the selection trial.

‘Dear SBA – Let’s talk as soon as possible’

KUCHING (Dec 20): Coaches and parents of affected U12 and U15 players have welcomed the call by Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) for a dialogue. But frustrations over how the association has conducted itself remain unabated.

In the past few days, The Borneo Post have continued to receive calls and messages from disgruntled coaches and parents.

Last week, The Borneo Post had carried two stories which revealed the shock and anger over the SBA’s decision not to enter state players in the two youngest age-groups for the 100PLUS national inter-state championship. The five-day tournament in Alor Setar, Kedah ends today. Sarawak is the only state among the 13 state affiliates of the Badminton Association of Malaysia which is not competing. It is also the first time that SBA has not registered to take part in the tournament.

KUCHING (Dec 12): Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) secretary Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir expressed disappointment that coaches and parents of players did not consult him before commenting on the performance of the association.

He said they should have approached him to find out the real situation SBA was facing before going to the media to voice out their frustration.

Speaking to The Borneo Post yesterday Hadi said while it was true the state would not be competing in the national age-group competition next week, the players and coaches should understand the pressing financial problem SBA was facing.

Limbang needs more football fields - Robert Alberts

LIMBANG (Dec 04): Sarawak football coach Robert Alberts said there are not enough football fields in Limbang and Lawas.

He hoped the state government can do more to expand and upgrade sports infrastructure to cultivate even more talents in the state.

“The government should step in to provide these infrastructures to enable major soccer competitions be held here and, at the same time, local players could improve and be selected for the state team,” he told reporters at a dinner organised by Limbang Football Association (LFA) for the visiting Sarawak Super League team.

Piala Utusan Borneo await more entries

KUCHING (Dec 03): The door is still open for more teams to register for the Piala Utusan Borneo 2014 futsal tournament.

The two-day event, open to teams in Kuching and Samarahan divisions, will be held at Coneli Futsal Centre, Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa from Dec 13.

A total of RM3,000 in cash prizes are up for grabs. Apart from medals and certificates of participation, teams can vie for RM1,200 (champion), RM800 (runner-up) and RM500 each for two joint third.

President Cup and SUKMA 2016 teams' selection trial in Kuching from Nov 29

Aspiring footballers born in the year of 1995, 1996 and 1997 are encouraged to participate in a 2-day selection trial for the President Cup and SUKMA 2016 teams that would be held at the Sarawak Stadium from Nov 29. 

The selection trial would commence at 0300pm. 

To-date, the Sarawak FA had organised similar selection trials in Miri, Bintulu and Sibu that saw a total of 330 youth had participated.

In Miri, a total of 180 youth turn up for the selection trial which was held at the Miri Stadium from Nov 18-19.

While in Bintulu, 70 youth made their way to UPM to attend the selection trial that took place from Nov 20-21.

Today in Sibu, Sarawak FA coach Johnny Dominicus will conduct a selection trial at Tun Ahmad Zaidi Stadium from 9am till 2pm.

Football selection trial for President Cup and Sukma in Sibu tomorrow

SIBU (Nov 21): Sarawak FA coach Johnny Dominicus and his assistants are in town tomorrow to scout for players for the President Cup Under-21 and the 2016 Sukma U-19.

The coach would carry out a selection trial at the Tun Zaidi Stadium from 3pm to 6pm.

This was disclosed by the Sibu FA secretary Abdul Hajis Abdullah as reported by a local newspaper today.

Its exco, Nur Ashriel Abdullah, as reported by a local BM daily, said there were many sport enthusias among the Bumiputera who wanted to carve a niche in the sport.

37 took part in a futsal refereeing course

A recent futsal refereeing course had received a very good response from the sport enthusiats.

A handful of them took a long trip from Kapit to attend the course which was held in Samarahan.

As a matter of fact, nearly half of the 37 participants were not from the Kuching and Samarahan divisions.

In stating this, Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) president Datuk Wee Hong Seng said though no longer active, those veteran sportsmen had sacrificed a lot in making the state proud not just at national but also on the global arena.

“They should not be treated like ‘old trophies’. These veterans strove to make Malaysia proud at the time when infrastructure and facilities enjoyed by the young athletes of today, weren’t available at all,” he said after visiting state’s bodybuilding legend, Bujang Taha, at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here yesterday.

Samarahan FA emerge Sarawak Cup champion


Samarahan FA compensated their lack of stamina with creative football to outwit ATM FA in the final of 2014 Sarawak Cup at the State Stadium on last Saturday

Although the opponents were aggresive in their efforts to find the net, the Samarahan FA keeper Mohd Zakaria was always kept his cool to thwart any dangerous attempt towards the goalmouth.

As a matter of fact, the credits should be given to Zakaria for safeguarding the goalmouth from being penetrated by the opponents when his team mates were already exhausted - committing more and more silly faults as the match progressed.

Kapit not in Sarawak Cup 2014

He said Kapit did make serious efforts to be in Kuching but unfortunately they failed to raise enough money to pay for the trip.

Karim dangles RM10,000 infront of Samarahan FA players to win Sarawak Cup

Samarahan FA players received a good tidings in the form of a RM10,000 incentive from the association's patron Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during a dinner last night.

However, the incentive was not without any string attached to it.

Karim told the players, he would give RM5,000 before the tournament started while the rest would depend on the team's performance.

‘No more excuses’, MSNS director warns

KUCHING (Sept 11): Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) acting director Lucas Kalang Laeng wants sports association to gear up for next year’s Sukma.

He expects the associations to start their de-centralised training by the end of September and centralised training by December this year.

“I believe that the people of Sarawak should not be hearing excuses such as not given enough time to prepare anymore as it is getting old. So here is a reminder to all of the sports association involved,” he said when interviewed by reporters in his office yesterday.

These associations, he continued, are also expected to finalise their shadow team by the end of September.

A good time for exposure trips, he suggested, is from this September to next April.

KUCHING: Miri FA are expecting two talented young players 21 year old Mohd Nur Arsyad Tamit and 20 year-old Awang Azizan Awang Sophian to shine in the Sarawak Cup this month.

Azizan is a former Harimau C striker while Arsyad has received a call-up to attend a selection trial for the Crocs.

Although they never played together, the duo manage to click from their first training.

Piala Sarawak: Skuad SUKMA 2016 diyakini mampu mencabar

KUCHING (Sept 04): Pengendali skuad SUKMA 2016, Johnny Dominicus menaruh keyakinan tinggi terhadap kudrat pemain mudanya untuk melakar kejutan pada kempen Piala Sarawak 2014 yang akan berlangsung dari 20 hingga 27 September depan.

Silat Hailam Laut emerge champions

Perguruan Seni Silat Hailam Laut beat two perguruans to emerge as the champion in a silat tournament held at the Kuching Waterfront in conjunction with the Satok Fest recently.

The other two perguruans were Perguruan Seni Silat Kibau and Perguruan Seni Silat Hidayah Melayu.

The prizes were given away by the Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Rioters are urged to come forward and surrender themselves

KUCHING (Sept 03): Police have launched a manhunt to track down individual believed to have been involved in the riot at the state Stadium in Kuching during a Malaysia Cup match between Sarawak and Perak, last Saturday.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman said the suspected individuals should come forward and surrender themselves as their photographs would be published in the local media.

Following the riot which left a trail of damage to police and public property, the police carried out a post-mortem to identify weaknesses and list down recommendations to improve security in the future.

Senior Crocs beat Johore in 5-3 penalty shoot-out to win 3rd spot

LANGKAWI: Senior Crocs won the third spot in the Langkawi International Invitational 9-aside Soccer Tournament today.

The team, which were comprised of former State football players, however, only managed to lay their hands on the spot after edging Johore in a penalty shoot-out.

The score-line was 0-0 until the final whistle.

Young Crocs' winning streak hit a downfall

MALACCA: Sarawak's top scorer Abdul Rahim Abdul Razak got the short end of the stick in the quarterfinal match against Sekolah Sukan Tengku Mahkota Ismail today.

He could not repeat the sterling performance when the Young Crocs were playing in the group stage of the U-19 Youth Cup.

The young lad failed to find his awesome scoring touch at the 88th minute when he had the best opportunity to revive the team's chances to cruise to the semifinal.

MALACCA: Abdul Rahim Abdul Razak netted three goals against the Youth Cup 2014 host to push Sarawak to squeeze through the group stage.

It was an awesome performance by the young Croc who had netted the same number of goals in previous matches against Sabah (4-1) and Kuala Lumpur (6-1).

He only failed to score in the team's first match against Kedah which saw the Young Crocs were beaten 1-7.
