Limbang needs more football fields - Robert Alberts

LFA Exco members pose with Sarawak and Limbang players before their friendly match on Tuesday.
LIMBANG (Dec 04): Sarawak football coach Robert Alberts said there are not enough football fields in Limbang and Lawas.

He hoped the state government can do more to expand and upgrade sports infrastructure to cultivate even more talents in the state.

“The government should step in to provide these infrastructures to enable major soccer competitions be held here and, at the same time, local players could improve and be selected for the state team,” he told reporters at a dinner organised by Limbang Football Association (LFA) for the visiting Sarawak Super League team.

Alberts observed that Sarawak can produce many good players but it is more difficult to produce professional players .

Meanwhile, he praised the people in Limbang and Lawas districts for their sporting spirit.

A crowd of over 5,000 turned up to watch the Crocs take on a Limbang selection at the Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

The state pro team won 5-1 with goals from Shereen Tambi, Ryan Griffiths and a hat-trick by Mohd Nazri.

Shamirol Hafifi scored Limbang’s solitary goal.

Among those who watched the friendly match were LFA president and Bukit Kota Assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Limbang District Education officer Mohamad Tangah and PBB Bukit Sari youth chief Councillor Semie Nasip.
