SCA need cricket ground badly

KUCHING (Sept 06): Sarawak Cricket Association (SCA) president Awang Mahyan Awang Mohammed hopes that a cricket ground will be built soon now that the state is playing in the national league’s top division.

According to him, the state team needed a real cricketing venue to play their home matches and were unable to do so for now.

Mahyan said now that the state team is playing in the national top division Tier A, there is indeed every reason why a cricket ground should be built here.

“With the state cricket team now playing the national top division, I hope that relevant authorities will understand our needs. The players have proven that investing in them is not a waste of time,” he added.

This year, Sarawak participated in the national league for the first time and they competed in the second division Tier B.

After registering five wins and three losses, Sarawak were finally promoted to Tier A on Wednesday after beating Negeri Sembilan by 104 overs in their final league match.

Team captain Victor Graman was the star of the match as he put on an inspiring performance on that day.

Tier B also consisted of teams such as Johor, Bukit Jalil Sports School and Terengganu.

“For a state without a cricket ground, the achievement of being promoted to the Tier A was fantastic.

“That shows how determined our players are in proving that Sarawak indeed has future in cricket,” said Mahyan.

Hence, he hoped that the state players will not rest on their laurels and continue their hunger in wanting more titles and glory for the state in the future.

Mahyan took the opportunity to thank the State government, Ministry of Social Development, Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) and SCA’s main sponsors YWP Property and Construction Sdn Bhd for their generous and kind support all this while.
