Bodybuilding legend Bujang Taha dies at 77

TWO LEGENDS: Bujang Taha and Malek Noor
KUCHING (Oct 12): Two-time Mr Asia champion Bujang Taha died after being admitted to the Medical Ward of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) a week ago for acute asthma attack.

According to daughter-in-law Suzana Ibrahim, the veteran muscleman breathed his last at 10.47pm on Sunday, October 12.

“The doctors have ruled the cause of death as complications arising from mouth and lung cancer.

“His remains will be brought to his home at 107, Kampung Tanjong in Petra Jaya tonight (Sunday),” she told The Borneo Post via SMS.

Bujang was among the pioneers of state bodybuilding, having made the nation proud by winning Mr Asia championship title twice, in 1980 and 1981.

News about his admission to SGH generated quite a buzz across social media, triggering wishes for recovery from many bodybuilding greats, including another legend Datuk Malek Noor.

The six-time Asian heavyweight champion is expected to fly down here on Monday to pay his respects to former contender Bujang.

Meanwhile Suzana said all close family members and friends had been informed of Bujang’s demise.
