Ministry may build racing track in Samariang, Kuching to curb illegal racing

KUCHING (Nov 13): THE Ministry of Social Development will consider a suggestion to build a racing track in the Samariang area to curb illegal racing.

Its assistant minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin however said there was a need to improve enforcement especially by the police as legal racing track might not be able to solve the problem altogether.

Citing Miri as an example, he said illegal racing still existed there although there was a racing tract in Senadin. He told the august house this in response to questions by Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali (BN-Samariang).

He also mentioned that based on information from the police, three places had been identified where illegal racing often took place, namely Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub, Jalan Bako and the Masja area.

In addition, police statistics showed that they had conducted 42 operations (Ops Samseng Jalan Raya) from January to September this year, where a total of 1,550 motor vehicles were checked, 52 of which were seized and 540 summonses issued. -TheBorneoPost
